Our aim as a Governing Body is to ensure that the highest standards of educational provision are maintained at Mells C of E First School.
The day to day running of the school is managed by the Headteacher, but the Governors are responsible for overseeing the development of the school. Together with the Headteacher we set the school's aims and policies.
For the 2017-2018 Academic Year, the roles are as follows:
Key roles of Governors are:
- to ensure clarify of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- to hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
- to oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure the budget is used effectively.
The full Governing Body meet regularly to monitor the School Development Plan, to make sure legally required policies are in place, to evaluate school progress and to endorse any important decisions that the Headteacher wishes to make.
Governors have to work together as a team under the leadership of the Chair of Governors but also take on specific roles and responsibilities. In order to effectively perform their duties, all Governors need to gain knowledge of how the school operates through training, by attending meetings, and by getting to know the school community.
