Mells Becomes Accredited As An Inclusive Dyslexia Friendly School

This year we have been working towards accreditation as an Inclusive Dyslexia Friendly School. This is an award which is nationally recognised as having beneficial effects for all children in a school, not just those with SEN, and we decided to participate last summer because the standards it requires fit well with the areas for improvement that Ofsted felt were necessary.

This year a great deal of work has been done to improve staff knowledge, resources and teaching approaches for all children including those with SEN, and we are delighted to announce that we have now achieved the award. On Thursday the Somerset IDFS Accreditation team spent the morning at school . They did a detailed tour of the school ,met with staff, governors, parents and a team of children, observed lessons and reviewed the progress made by a number of children. Their comments were very complimentary and they were particularly impressed with the lessons they observed and the quality of our provision.

If you would like to know more about SEN provision at Mells, or are interested in Dyslexia, you will find information on our website.
